10 Ways To Pray Like Jesus

How did Jesus pray? What motivated His heart and prompted Him to call home? Check out these 10 habits the Savior modeled in order to teach us how to have a powerful prayer life.

Before Making Big Decisions
“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles.” – Luke 6:12-13

Prayer keeps us in tune with God’s will and purpose. To know this, we must know God and spend time with Him regularly.

Habitually
“And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him.” – Luke 22:39

Try to make a habit of spending time with God in prayer. Jesus did this to the point where this became an important part of His lifestyle.

Early in the Morning
“Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.” – Mark 1:35
Learn to prioritize prayer first thing in the morning.

For Others
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” – John 17:20
Avoid having a selfish prayer life. Intercede for others as the Lord leads you.

In Troubling Times
“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” – Matthew 26:41
Prayer is necessary for strength in times of trouble and can prepare you for future trials.

Know God is Listening
“And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.” – John 11:41
Be confident that God is listening when you pray and is ready to act on your behalf.

Prayed in Community
“About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.” – Luke 9:28
A balanced prayer life also involves others.

Prayer Before Meals
“Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.” – Mark 6:41
Doing this reminds us that God is the giver of all things good and is our ultimate source of provision.

Solitude
“After He had dismissed them, He went up on a mountainside by Himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23
Distraction-free, uninterrupted time with God will keep your prayer life balanced and genuine.

With Willfull Submission
“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” – Luke 22:42
When petitioning the Lord in prayer, be willing to sacrifice your own will for God’s, who always knows what’s best.
